If you’d love to take a vintage digicam on your travels with you but don’t want the hassle of lugging extra weight around, look no further.
The Casio Exilim is an ultra-compact digital camera from 2002. About the size of a credit card, it’s most compact camera I regularly use. The camera has a 1.3 megapixel CCD sensor and the images are quite small - so you really need to love the retro digicam look.
Straight out of camera, the images lack contrast, so I like to ramp it up in Lightroom and add some vibrance to enhance the colours.
I took the EX-S1 to Japan in March 2023 but I forgot the golden rule of using this camera - you need a 2GB or less memory card to use it. Anything bigger, and it just won’t work. I eventually tracked one down in Kyoto, about half way through our trip.
All of the imges you see here and in the video are from Tokyo - the last 5 days of our trip. I felt sad that I didn’t use this earlier in the trip, but lesson learnt re the memory card. I’m going back to Japan in November and plan on taking it with me again - this time with the right size memory card!
