Over the years I’ve made many ‘favourite cameras’ lists.
Recently a pack of favourites has emerged, with others being relegated to the shelf or sold off. I’ve featured a photo (or 2) from each of my 5 favourites in this post.
Long term readers of my Substack may recall that issue 3 of this newsletter was called ‘Which 10 cameras can’t you live without?’. So you may ask why I’ve created a list of just 5 cameras now?
I was inspired by a group of film photography bloggers in May. They silmultaneously released their lists of ‘5 cameras they can’t live without’ also known as a ‘dead hand camera list’. I’ve linked to their websites at the end of this post.
This seemed like a good opportunity for me to revisit my selections. In the spirit of their blogs, I have kept this list to film cameras.
Exercise: 5 cameras you can’t live without
Here’s a good way to find out which cameras you can’t live without. Give yourself 30 seconds to write 5 cameras on a piece of paper. When time is up, you may want to make some edits to the list, but those first 5 cameras are a pretty good indication of where you’re thinking is at. Let me know how you went in the comments.
Watch on YouTube
Learn more about each camera, including some fun facts, in my latest video. I also pick the one digital camera that would edge out one of these selections.
Thanks to these bloggers for the inspo:
More travel photos are on the way soon, I promise!
Cheers
Matt
