For some reason I always shoot Polaroids in winter.
Maybe it’s because I’m worried about my instant masterpieces getting heat damaged during Brisbane’s hot and humid summers. Or maybe it’s because I like the glow of the winter sunset colours here in Queensland.
These images are part of my smallest zine to date - Polaroids of Wynnum. It features ten images shot on my SX-70 and SLR680 cameras. I haven’t shot much Polaroid film lately, but looking at these images is a timely reminder for me to start shooting again.
I love taking long exposures with Polaroid cameras. I use a tripod and remote release cable. I find that SX-70 film is better as you can get longer exposures in the same conditions. SX-70 film is 2 stops slower than 600 film - ISO 160 vs ISO 640.
How to shoot Polaroids at night with an SX-70
If you’re keen to find out how I shot the last 2 Polaroids, check out my video below. I tell you what you need to shoot long exposures and show you my methods. Apologies in advance for the crazy 80s saxophone backing music.
