China 2024 (Objects)
Pictures of objects taken on the Fujifilm X100VI with the Classic Neg film sim
I love taking photos of objects when I travel.
It’s not just people or famous tourist attractions that make you feel you’re in another part of the world, but everything from fire hydrants to eggs.
Scrambled or fried? You’d never see eggs presented quite like this in Australia. I’m not sure I’d eat so many if they were.
I saw this in the market in Suzhou. I love the colours of the crate, the trailer, and the books. I’ll be doing a couple of posts about Suzhou with my Ricoh GR3 photos soon.
During our cheap package tour to China we had 4 mandatory shopping trips. One was to a green tea plantation. I didn’t find the talk about tea that interesting so I went wandering. I found this measuring scale around the back of a building.
These brooms and hoses were in the back of a fire fighting vehicle in the car park outside the jade factory.
This pot plant was in the window of the reception at yet another mandatory shopping visit - the Chinese medicine clinic. I think I was the only person on tour that didn’t buy a single item at any of them.
In writing this post, I’ve realised I took interesting photos while hanging around bored at 4 different shopping visits. Certainly a case of boredom inspiring creativity.
I spotted this telephone in the street in Shanghai. China is one of the most smartphone-dependent societies on the planet, so I doubt this gets much action these days.
You’ll know from my previous posts, I have a thing for washing lines. The lady who hung out these towels was amused I found them so interesting.
You can find out more about my fascination for washing lines in one of my earliest Substacks - Hills Hoist.

All of these photos feature in my first China video where I compare 100 images from the Fujifilm X100VI across five film simulations.
More China photos on the way
I’ve been debating how best to share my China photos, this is what I’ve come up with. I’ll share:
X100VI photos by subject (people and objects)
Ricoh GR3 photos by place (Beijing, Suzhou, Shanghai)
Film photos by camera / film type.
The next post will be photos from my Olympus Stylus Epic and Kodak ColorPlus 200. The colours from some of those photos reminded me of the Classic Neg film sim in the images above.
Until next time, thanks for reading. I’d love it if you gave this post a like or comment.
Cheers
Matt
Love this entire collection. Makes me want to just wander and shoot.
Great photos. I am happy you got bored and wandered off!
