Accidental double exposures
Australia / Japan mashup on film
I’m not exactly sure how it happened, but I have 4 accidental exposures on a roll of Lomography 400 Color Negative film.
I shot the first 4 frames in mid-2024, then I must’ve rewound the film and not labelled it correctly. I then took that roll with me to Japan in September 2024.

Shooting with my (now dead) Minolta TC-1, I walked around Kanazawa with my son on a stinking hot late summer day taking photos.

Imagine my surprise when I got the roll developed a couple of weeks later. I was a little annoyed at first, after all, it’s not as if I could pop back to Japan and shoot those scenes again in a hurry.
After some reflection, I actually love them now. They are a good representation of the happy accidents we get when shooting film.
Have you ever taken accidental double exposures? I’d love to hear your stories!
Cheers
Matt
P.S. I’ve been a bit behind with my Subtack posting, as well as my podcast and video creation. I was in Sydney for my daughter’s 18th birthday in early May (short video about the Leica store below) and then after that I was sick for a week. I’m hoping to post more often now I’m better!

Double / multiple exposures are one of my favourite techniques. The accidentality of it probably make it all worth the while. I mean, I love it when it looks deliberate but even more fun when it’s not. Great stuff here 🤗🤓🤩
Happy Accidents!
